Mobile Dwelling: My First Home on Wheels

How It All Started:

For you to understand why I chose to live in a mobile dwelling I have to go back into my lifestyle and what has happened to me.

Back in 2013, I was able to visit my parent who had been living in Italy for about 2 years. My dad had gotten a job over there. This was my first big solo trip and first trip overseas to another country. I had been to Hawaii before which was my first flying experience but this was a longer trip than that!

It took about 14 hours from Atlanta to Roma than Venice. They live about 45 minutes from Venice so it was a good spot to land. Just experiencing different cultures, getting out of my comfort zone, and being about to try new things was life changing!

I’m usually picky about my food but since then I said I needed to try new things no matter what. A lot of stuff I ended up liking and only few I didn’t. This thinking didn’t just happen on the way over there, but about a year or two before.

My Self-development Journey

You will see very quickly on this blog and on my YouTube channel that I talk a lot about your health and continuously growing as a person. I love to learn and I use the internet and library as my tool for that. So around 2011/2012 I was tired of going through the motions and the circle of life I felt I was stuck in.

At the age of 24 (or 25), I did not have any energy, I was depressed, and I was living an unhealthy lifestyle. When I say unhealthy I don’t just mean drinking and eating out a lot or having junk food all the time. I mean I was watching the news all the time (that shows mostly negative things and has an agenda), I was around negative people, and I was only telling myself that I wouldn’t be much and there was no hope. I believe I had also gone through a breakup, which was my last relationship, and I know that affected me in a bad way.

So after watching the documentary the secret I realised that all this stuff I had heard about making things happen could be real. I was just letting life happen to me and I was feeling like the victim when that’s not how we should live. I really started seeking God in a new way and feeling that there was more to life than where I was in this cycle.

How Things Turned Around

I was drinking a lot of energy drinks then too and I knew I had to gain natural energy. So I started looking into natural ways of living, getting energy, and detoxing the body. Diving deep into those things you see how the body works and what you put into you affects your thinking and health.

I started challenging myself to eliminate certain things from my life and add only good natural things. I started meditating and clearing my mind to focus on what matters most and being very grateful every moment I could. I even started eliminating different foods until I ended up on a raw diet for about 2 weeks before my trip to Italy.

Of course, when I got to Italy I wanted to try the different foods so that cut the raw diet but I knew then what it felt like to live that way and how it affected my body. I was sold! Granted I have not gone completely back to it yet but I am in the process of transitioning to pescetarian then vegetarian eventually.

Okay, What About Your First Mobile Dwelling?

I said all that so you know where I’m coming from when I say I wanted to try something new. This was not to be a part of a fad or hashtag for living in a mobile dwelling! This was to add to my never ending life transformation and journey to discovering me.

After I left Italy for the first time I knew I had to get out and explore. Life was too short, the world was huge and yet small at the same time, and I wanted to see things with my own eyes. I knew that living in a mobile dwelling would change my life in a great way and I couldn’t just let it be a dream.

I stumble upon a book about a guy that had a mobile dwelling, he was living in his van (Walden on Wheels: Book, A blog post on it)! That sparked a childhood dream of mine I had forgotten about, which was to live in a motor home! I just use to think it made sense and it was a way to “stick it to the man”. So I started researching into the mobile dwelling lifestyle and found it was a great community out there. At the time not may younger people (non-retirees) were doing it but it was building up fast for the younger people. Greatly due to our economy and what I believe is an awakening to get into nature and experience life.

Back Home

When I got back to the states there was no question on if I was going to move into some sort of mobile dwelling, it was just when?

The video below shows a little of the process from my putting my jeep on Craigslist, to me getting, and cleaning my first mobile dwelling. This was a 1983 Class C Coachman Leprechaun motor home!
